
Resource materials: classroom aquarium, fish pictures, books on marine life or Field and Stream magazines.
Materials and equipment: 8 x 10.5" art paper provided by Art to Remember pencils crayons paintbrushes (large easel size) watercolor (variety of light washes pre-mixed in paint cups) blues, greens and aquamarine.
Step 1: Draw a variety of fish shapes on the board. In pencil have the students draw a large outline of a fish and add eyes and fins. After a discussion about what they might see under the water if they were a fish, tell the students to add sea grasses, small fish and other sea creatures.
Step 2: Color the fish and other objects heavily with crayon using several colors leaving the background white.
Step 3: Wash over crayon images with one or more of the washes in broad horizontal strokes, completely covering the white background.
