
Resource materials: illustrated circus stories, circus posters. Fun to have someone dressed as a clown to visit the class.
Materials and equipment: 8 x 10.5" art paper provided by Art to Remember pencils markers.
Step 1: Talk about the different kinds of clowns the students have seen at the circus or in the visuals presented sad, happy, funny,silly! Students can practice making faces in the mirror to create their own original clown.
Step 2: Draw outline of one or more clown faces. Add facial features remember to exaggerate. Add silly hats, funny wigs to give your clown an original personality.
Step 3: Color with markers adding pattern to clothing such as stripes or polka dots. Add buttons, bow ties or suspenders. You might outline entire clown with a darker marker.
Step 4: Color the background completely with contrasting color or a circus background such as crowds or circus tents.
